SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR THE DIY SNOWMAN WOOD BEAD ORNAMENT:
First you will need to collect your craft supplies and clear a space where you can work on this project and get a little bit messy. This tutorial makes one snowman wood bead ornament.
They are so cute, you might want to make a bunch of them! Keep some for yourself to add to your Christmas decorations, or they would make great gifts from the kids!
Supplies List:
- 3 - 20mm wooden beads
- 1 - black marker
- 1 - orange marker
- Twine
- Scissors
- ¼" ribbon in red or green
- scotch tape (optional to help thread the beads on the twine)
HOW TO MAKE DIY SNOWMAN WOOD BEAD ORNAMENT:
Directions:
Step 1:
- Use the black marker to draw “eyes” on one of the beads to begin making the snowman's head. You could also use black paint.
Step 2:
- Use the orange marker to draw the “nose” underneath the eyes. You could also use orange paint.
Step 3:
- Use the black marker to draw a "mouth" under the nose.
Step 4:
- Cut a 12 inch length of twine.
Step 5:
- Tie a double knot, making a 1-2 inch loop, leaving about ¼ inch of twine hanging off the end.
Step 6:
- Thread the bead that you just made the snowman face on through the un-looped end of the twine. Thread it up over the ¼ inch of twine from the previous step too. PRO TIP: If you are having trouble threading the bead, this is where the tape comes in. Wrap a piece around the bottom of the twine where you are threading the beads. It will help them slide on easier.
Step 7:
- Thread the next two beads onto the twine.
Step 8:
- Tie a double knot tightly under the third bead, then snip off the end with a scissors.
Step 9:
- Cut an 8 inch length of ribbon, and tie it into a bow between the snowman face bead and the one under it.
Step 10:
- Trim each end of the ribbon on an angle.
Other ideas for using these Snowman Ornaments:
- make a snowman wood bead garland with more wood beads, you could alternate large beads and small beads, or just use all medium wood beads. Leave the beads natural or paint them red and green!
- add your snowman handmade ornaments to an evergreen garland or wreath
- make a snowman ornament family making some ornaments with small beads and some with larger beads
