How to Cook Winter Squash in an Instant Pot

Many people will be cooking winter squash for the holidays. Use your instant pot, and get the job done quickly and efficiently!

You can cook all types of winter squash and pumpkins in a pressure cooker or instant pot.

You can leave it whole if it is small, just be sure to pierce it well. Or you can halve it, which might work well for spaghetti squash, delicata or acorn squash.

Or you can cube it, which might work better for butternut, jarrahdale, sweat meat or blue hubbard which are those larger denser squash varieties. For all methods, add 1 cup water to the instant pot.

For a whole squash cook it for 20-25 minutes on high pressure and let it naturally release for at least 10 minutes. For squash that has been halved, such as an acorn, cook it for 5 minutes on high pressure and let it naturally release for 5 minutes.

For cubed squash, peel and seed the squash or pumpkin, cut into 1" cubes, add to pressure cooker on steamer basket. Cook on high pressure for 3 minutes if you want them to hold their shape.  Then do a quick release.
