Welcome back to 5 Things Friday 3/23/18! I hope you all had a great week! Please comment with one of your favorite things that happened this week, or something that you are thankful for. 🙂 Every Friday I aim to post about 5 of my favorite things that week. I will try to post one thing for each of these categories: Homestead Garden, Homestead Critters, Homestead Kitchen, Homesteader Entertainment and Personal a thing from my Homesteader life. These may be handy gadgets, recipe’s, quotes or moments in time. I hope you will all share some of your Friday Favorites with me as well!

Homestead Gardening Favorite:

5 Things Friday - Ariat Work Boots - with The Reid Homestead

This week, my 5 Things Friday favorite gardening thing was this new pair of Ariat work boots that I bought myself. I have been dealing with extremely bad plantar fasciitis in both feet for the last 4-5 years. It got so bad this last fall, I ended up having surgery on my right foot. I was off my feet for a month before surgery and then slowly worked my way back up to being back on my feet. Since I’ve been working in the garden, I noticed that my tendons, ligaments, muscles, what have you are still weak, and I have almost turned my ankle easily over a dozen times in the last 2 months working outside. So I decided I needed some ankle support instead of wearing my Crocs or Oofos slip ons out in the garden. These boots are a dream! So comfy! And cute to boot! Ha! So cute in fact, my FFA daughter decided she needed a pair too! So now we are twinning! If you need a good pair of garden or homestead work boots, you should check them out.

Homestead Critters Favorite:

5 Things Friday - Pi the tuxedo house cat - with The Reid Homestead

This week, my 5 Things Friday favorite critter thing is our house cat Pi. He was supposed to be a she, and we rescued him as a kitten from a friends barn that was over run with barn cats. The plan was for him to be Otis’s new girlfriend and be a fellow barn cat. But when we took him to the vet, we found out she was a he, and after spending several hundred dollars getting him fixed and a couple of other things dealt with, he became our house cat. He is only 2 1/2 yrs old, and is a snuggle bug for sure. He loves his people, and demands attention every evening.

Homestead Kitchen Favorite:

5 Things Friday - Blendtec Blender - with The Reid Homestead

My 5 Things Favorite Kitchen item thing this week is my BlendTec blender. I have been trying to get back into my smoothie routine, and this blender is a rock star. I like it for several reasons. One, I find it is just as powerful as a Vitamix, but didn’t cost quite as much. It’s still spendy, don’t get me wrong! But it can make nut butters or whatever you need it to do, with no problem. I also chose the BlendTec over the Vitamix because it wasn’t quite as tall, so it can fit under most upper cabinets, and the parts can go in the dishwasher, which is always a big plus for me.

Homesteader Entertainment Favorite:

My 5 Things Favorite entertainment thing this week…this always seem to be the category I struggle with the most, because I entertain myself in the garden or online most of the time….I don’t watch a lot of TV or Movies. OK, I haven’t watched this yet, but it is on my to do list to start this weekend, but yes, it is another series done about Paul Gautschi and his Back to Eden garden. Here is the first in a series of 5 I think. I have watched a lot of videos on his methods on YouTube, but came across another series done by Paradise on Earth, whom I haven’t watched before, so I am anxious to check it out.

Personal Homesteader Life Favorite:

My 5 Things Favorite personal favorite was just having all three girls home this week. Although my college girl is sicker than a dog. 🙁 So please send her some get well vibes so she can do back to school healthy. I am hoping that the rest of us don’t catch it!

Happy Friday to you and yours! Please comment below and let me know at least one thing you are thankful for on this Friday! And share what you have on the agenda this weekend! Hope it is a good one!
